SOLC 2013 Day 23: Happiness list

After writing about such intense feelings yesterday, both in my blogpost and conversations with friends, I felt I had to lighten my own mood a bit.  It helps to remember things that make me happy when I get riled up over injustices.

This is by no means an exhaustive list; just what comes to mind this afternoon:

  • Fluffy clean towels
  • Friends who leave me awesome unexpected gifts on my doorstep
  • My owl collection, growing by the day (partially because of aforementioned friends!)
  • My favorite pajamas, and spending a Saturday in them
  • A crochet project turning out better than I expected
  • Finishing dreaded tasks faster than anticipated
  • Access to adequate healthcare when needed, like right now, when my ears are protesting allergy season
  • Fun sparkly green nail polish
  • Healthy, yummy food to eat
  • The week-long jeans pass I "won" in the egg hunt at work; planning my outfits will be a snap next week
  • Professors who continue to encourage me past earning my degree
  • Social media, which allows me to stay in contact with friends all over the world
  • My awesome husband and children (who really aren't children, anymore...sigh)
  • Dancing with teenboy in the kitchen, to music only we can hear
  • Watching the neighbor's cat unsuccessfully stalk the birds in our backyard; he's a gorgeous creature!
  • Afternoon naps....which is where I'll be headed soon, after posting this and eating lunch.
To all my friends and new acquaintances visiting in cyberspace and the blogosphere--have a happy weekend!

  3. Isn't it funny how fluffy towels can start the day or end the day off great! Your list covers a lot...an just reading can make me happy. I can see your neighbor's cat unsuccessfully stalking the birds...and now...I feel like taking a nap. I just might do that! Jackie http://familytrove.blogspot.com/

    1. Oh, I am a believer in naps. Unfortunately, there was a good movie on TV, and my nap has been postponed. Not to fear; the afternoon is not gone yet! :-)

  4. I love the list. I would love to watch any cat. We have a dog and so do most of the neighbors, so cat sightings are rare. Watching the dogs play, though, does make me happy.

    1. Kay,
Pet therapy is wonderful! We don't have pets of our own, but our house backs the hike-n-bike, so our yard is no stranger to critters. Squirrels, cats, rat snakes, hawks, all sorts of birds, and even the occasional turtle!

  6. I've started coming up with at least one "happiness item" a day and posting the list on my blog at the end of the month (to make me remember to do it) . I like your list! jeans pass at work? awesome.

    1. I like that, Dana! I've been keeping a gratitude journal for over a decade, writing down five items a night that I'm thankful for before I go to sleep. It helps me sleep so much better, especially after a stressful day. I never thought to make it a monthly item in my blog--great idea!
